چکیده

Aim Both ecological and evolutionary processes shape biological communities along elevational gradients. Compared to above-ground taxa, patterns of below-ground animals are little studied. Here, we investigated how environmental gradients across elevation may affect species divergence in the past act as filters contemporary assembly soil detritivores via traits. We asked: (1) Are filtering due elevation, vegetation or microhabitat-related factors driving isotomid springtail community elevation; (2) did divergences occur after mountain uplift; (3) there related past. Location Changbai Mountain, north-east China. Taxon Isotomidae, Collembola. Methods collected springtails from 800 2150 m above sea level reconstructed phylogeny using mitochondrial genome sequencing. inspected body length, number ommatidia pigmentation, determined their patterns. then derived parameters trait-based metacommunity phylogenetic approaches used linear mixed-effects models identify variables that allow predicting trait parameters. Results Isotomid differed more traits when co-occurring environments with lower nitrogen, typically at higher elevations. Most exhibited clustering, but this pattern was not any variables. These mainly diverged Mesozoic some events associated N pH, well other covarying gradient The current comprised old lineages possessing have undergone drift. Main conclusions While for detritivores, evolution preconditions assembly. Species likely resulted resembling present day. Below-ground diversity Mountain is based on persistence lineages, while recent speciation importance.

Replicated hybrid zones of Xiphophorus swordtails along an elevational gradient.

Natural hybrid zones provide opportunities to study a range of evolutionary phenomena from speciation to the genetic basis of fitness-related traits. We show that widespread hybridization has occurred between two neo-tropical stream fishes with partial reproductive isolation. Phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial sequence data showed that the swordtail fish Xiphophorus birchmanni is monophylet...

A Complex Metacommunity Structure for Gastropods Along an Elevational Gradient

The metacommunity framework integrates species-specific responses to environmental gradients to detect emergent patterns of mesoscale organization. Abiotic characteristics (temperature, precipitation) and associated vegetation types change with elevation in a predictable fashion, providing opportunities to decouple effects of environmental gradients per se from those of biogeographical or histo...

Distinct soil bacterial communities along a small-scale elevational gradient in alpine tundra

The elevational diversity pattern for microorganisms has received great attention recently but is still understudied, and phylogenetic relatedness is rarely studied for microbial elevational distributions. Using a bar-coded pyrosequencing technique, we examined the biodiversity patterns for soil bacterial communities of tundra ecosystem along 2000-2500 m elevations on Changbai Mountain in China...

Patterns of distribution and plant diversity in along elevational gradient (Case study: Moghan-Sabalan rangelands)

The study of plant communities is the best way to learn about vegetation structure and distribution as well as various interactions among the plants in an ecosystem. Elevation factor plays a vital role in plant distribution that ultimately leads to specific phytogeographic regions. This study evaluated the changes in species composition, density, frequency, canopy cover and palatability of spec...

Multi-targeted metagenetic analysis of the influence of climate and environmental parameters on soil microbial communities along an elevational gradient

Mountain elevation gradients are invaluable sites for understanding the effects of climate change on ecosystem function, community structure and distribution. However, relatively little is known about the impact on soil microbial communities, in spite of their importance for the functioning of the soil ecosystem. Previous studies of microbial diversity along elevational gradients were often lim...
